WelcomeEarly Intervention & the use of Family Group ConferencingAs the policy direction in Child Welfare and Youth Justice begins to recognise the move towards early intervention the FGC Forum (NI) facilitated a workshop on the 26th September 2012 to begin to explore the implications of this for fgc practice. It was attended by 27 participants from Health & Social Care Trust’s, Education & Library Boards, Voluntary Sector and the Department of Justice. Paul Kellagher and Fiona Flynn, Action for Children shared their experience of working with families at the early stages of a problem and the positive outcomes from this work. Group discussion addressed issues around the importance of maintaining the integrity of the fgc model; issues in relation to managing and ownership of information; the challenges of assessing risk and safeguarding and finally assessing outcomes. A large part of the work of the forum in the coming year will be supporting organisations and professionals in appropriately using fgc’s as part of an early intervention strategy. |
